Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
An important representative commented the incident left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
